A dental home from the first tooth through the teenage years

Healthy habits start early, but every age brings different needs. We serve children from infancy through age 18 and tailor the visit to the child’s development, comfort, and clinical needs.

Babies and toddlers. Early visits help your child become familiar with the dental office while parents receive guidance about brushing, nutrition, fluoride, oral habits, and healthy tooth development. A child’s first dental visit is recommended by age one.

School-age children. Routine exams, cleanings, X-rays when appropriate, fluoride, sealants, and early treatment can help prevent small problems from becoming painful or disruptive to school and family life.

Teens. We reinforce independent hygiene, monitor changing dental needs, address cavities or injuries, and help teens understand how daily choices affect their long-term oral health.

Children who feel anxious or need additional support. Our team uses age-appropriate communication, patience, and behavior-guidance techniques. When clinically appropriate, additional options may be discussed for children with significant anxiety, special health care needs, or complex treatment needs.

Share the basic information. We will ask for your child’s name, date of birth, Medicaid or Florida Healthy Kids information, and the dental plan shown on the card.
Confirm before you arrive. Our team will explain what documentation to bring and help confirm current plan participation. If a provider assignment or plan issue must be resolved first, we will tell you clearly so your time is not wasted.
Come in and be cared for. We will welcome your child, listen to your concerns, complete the appropriate evaluation, and explain the next step in plain language.

Does Family Dental Home accept Medicaid for children?

Yes. Family Dental Home serves children ages 0-18 with select Florida Medicaid and Florida Healthy Kids dental coverage. Because plan participation and provider assignments can change, please call us to confirm your child’s current plan before the appointment.

Which Medicaid dental plans do you work with?

We work with eligible patients covered through DentaQuest and Liberty Dental and with families enrolled through Florida Healthy Kids. Florida Medicaid, Florida Healthy Kids, and the dental plan name are related but not identical, so having the child’s card or member information available helps us verify the correct coverage.

What if I do not know which dental plan my child has?

That is common. Call our office with the information you have, and we will help you identify what needs to be confirmed. Florida Medicaid families may also contact a Medicaid Choice Counselor at 1-877-711-3662.

What ages do you see?

We welcome infants, children, and teens from birth through age 18. Early visits are encouraged by age one, even when only a few teeth have appeared.

Are cleanings, X-rays, fluoride, fillings, and crowns covered?

Many medically necessary children’s dental services may be covered by Florida Medicaid dental plans. Florida Healthy Kids benefits and copays may differ. Coverage also depends on eligibility, frequency limits, clinical need, provider assignment, and prior authorization. The dental plan makes the final benefit determination.

What if my child is afraid of the dentist or has special health care needs?

Please tell us when requesting the appointment. Our team uses age-appropriate language, patience, and behavior guidance. The doctor will evaluate your child’s individual needs and discuss appropriate care options.

Do you see children with tooth pain or a dental emergency?

Yes. If your child has pain, swelling, a broken tooth, or a dental injury, call us as soon as possible. We will ask questions to determine the safest and most appropriate next step. For a life-threatening emergency, call 911.

Can Medicaid help with transportation to the dentist?

A child’s Medicaid health plan may provide transportation to covered dental appointments. Contact the health plan listed on your child’s card to ask about eligibility, scheduling requirements, and advance notice.
